Aftercare Advice for Permanent Make-up (PMU) Treatments

Congratulations on your new PMU treatment! To ensure that your permanent makeup looks beautiful and lasts, it is crucial to follow proper aftercare. Here are some important guidelines to keep in mind:

The first week after treatment:

1. Keep the skin completely dry: For the first seven days after treatment, you should keep the treated skin completely dry. Avoid excessive contact with water.

2. No makeup: During the same seven days, you should not apply any makeup to the treated area, including eyebrow powder, pencil, gel, foundation, day creams, night creams, and so on.

3. Avoid intense exercise: During the first four days after treatment, it is recommended to avoid intense exercise and sweating. Sweat can lead to pigment shedding, which can result in a lighter and less even color.

During the first 14 days after treatment:

4. No (hot) baths, swimming pools, saunas or steam baths: To prevent possible infections, we recommend not to go into (hot) baths, swimming pools, saunas or steam baths for two weeks after the treatment.

5. Sun protection: After 10 days, you can apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 to the treated skin if you are exposed to sunlight. Please note that sunlight and UV radiation can discolor the color of the pigments. It is advisable not to expose the skin to the sun and/or tanning bed for at least 1 month after treatment.

The healing process:

6. Patience is required: The healing process of PMU occurs in several phases over a period of approximately 5 to 6 weeks. Here's an overview:

Day 1: The color appears darker and more intense due to slight swelling.

Day 2-6: Scabs and skin may appear on the skin. Don't touch this!

Day 7-10: The scabs and skins will slowly begin to loosen, and the color will appear lighter underneath.

Day 10-20: The scabs are gone, but the color and shape may appear blotchy.

Day 20-30: The color and shape gradually intensify as the pigments settle into the skin.

Day 30-40: The final result of the first treatment becomes fully visible. This is the time for the touch-up to put the finishing touches.

7. Avoid cosmetic treatments: During the healing process, it is not recommended to undergo cosmetic treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatments, botox or fillers.
